Viscaceae Miq.
Mistletoe Family
Mistletoe is a group of parasitic plants found throughout the world. North America's species are parasitic on woody plants, and the species found east of the Mississippi are restricted to canopy trees (Overlease, 2003). New Jersey's records identify two species in the recently segregated Viscaceae, the temperate mistletoes. Single members of the genera Phoradendron and Arceuthobium occupy distinct and separate niches within wetlands.
Four genera; two in New Jersey.
New Jersey's taxa:
- Arceuthobium pusillum Peck. (Dwarf Mistletoe)
- Phoradendron leucarpum (Raf.) Reveal & M.C. Johnson (American Mistletoe)
